The Laboratory of Tissue Engineering is presently studying several research topics in the field of regenerative medicine for the development of cell therapies and bio-organs such as the identification of stem cells, control of cell differentiation, mass culture of stem cells, tissue engineering scaffold design, and cell preconditioning.

-Identification of stem cell by side-population phenotype
-Transdifferentiation of neural precursor cells
-Mobilization of mesenchymal stem cells from bone marrow by substance p
-Dedifferentiation and redifferentiation of costal chondrocytes
-Mechanical stimuli-activated signaling pathway and cell preconditioning
-Cell therapeutic development for skin injury Mechanism of wound healing
-Development of tissue engineering scaffold Animal models for spinal cord injury, corneal injury, articular cartilage injury, and wound healing.

Neural precursor cells for regeneration of spinal cord injury (2004-2011 by 21st New Frontier Project: Stem Cell Research Center), Musculoskeletal Bioorgan Center (2004-2013 by the Ministry for Health, Welfare and Family Affairs), Development of New Therapeutic Technology Based on Molecular Imaging for Intractable Diseases (2005.12-2010.11, supported by Seoul city)
