Bachelor, KyungHee University, Agronomy (1973-1977).
Ph.D.,KyungHee University, Genetics and Breeding(1987-1990).
Post-Doctoral Research Associate, Plant Biotechnology Institute, NRC, Canada (1992-1994).
Principal Research Scientist, Korean Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute, Korea(1979-2002).

Dr. Yang's teaching responsibilities include a seminar in Oriential medicinal plant and bioconversion, and an agricultural biotechnology colloquium.

Research

Dr. Yang's research members are composed with forty including post doc, PhD and M.S course students, mainly focused on ginseng using molecular biological technique. Recently four different teams(project) are managed:

First major team project is taxonomic study about new bacteria and its bioconversion of major ginsenoside to high-functional minor ginsenoside.
A second team project is that by using 20,000 EST library, saponin biosysthesis related genes are cloned by using vector system. Moreover, the cellular expression of specific gene and effects are being studied by abiotic and biotic stress.
A third team project is designed to develop the specific marker to differentiate various ginseng cultivars. By real time PCR, multiplex PCR, and other SNP technique, rapid and efficient detection methods are being evaluated.
A fourth team project is technology for analysis of saponin, pesticide and heaval metal. To develop other new ginsenoside for industrialized food items, microbe are used for conversion and new high functional ginseng saponine is being studied.
