Our research group is working on the regulation of chemokine genes in monocytic cell lines in response to various agonists in order to understand the regulatory roles of chemokines during inflammation. We have been the studying functional roles of chemokines in angiogenesis by analyzing endothelial cell migration and in vivo angiogenic activities. We are currently working on the migration and invasion of hepatoma cells which are induced by CCR1ligands.

Our research team is also interested in the functional roles of lactoferrin in the regulation of angiogenesis. We have shown that human lactoferrin upregulates VEGF-A-mediated angiogenesis via upregulation of KDR/Flk-1. We are currently investigating the roles of lactoferrin in the expression of cell adhesion molecules such as ICAM-1, VCAM-1, and E-selectin. In addition, we are also interested in plant-derived natural products which could be utilized for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases and osteoporosis. Our group has developed screening systems for anti-inflammatory activities and anti-osteoporosis and through the screening of hundreds of plant extracts we have obtained a number of candidates for anti-inflammation and anti-osteoporosis. We are currently working on the molecular actions of such candidate extracts, the isolation of active compounds, and the development of functional materials.
